Customer Example - AAA
A customer had used in-house expertise to create the AAA policies for their organization. These policies were correct, but as their user base grew, they started to see performance problems. They used their existing support contract to obtain help.
By comparing their requirements to RADIUS server logs, we determined that the system was overloading the database they used to store user information. When we examined the AAA policies that they had written, the cause was clear.
We re-wrote key portions of the policies to add more preconditions on the database queries. Rather than doing queries for every request, we were able to fine-tune them so that the queries were done only when strictly necessary. This was done without affecting any other policies on the system.
When the new policies were deployed, the load on their database dropped by a factor for four hundred (400). This decreased load allowed them to stay with their current systems, and saved them from an expensive hardware upgrade.
When they purchased a support contract from us, they expected to use it to obtain answers to their questions. The additional benefit they saw was that the support contract saved them money.
